SUMMARY: Administers Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/N) services to Native American population and collaborates with clinical staff in support of a holistic approach to wellness for Native American clients. Develops, coordinates, and administers culturally sensitive health education programs and materials for individuals and/or groups, focusing on prevention and treatment of Diabetes, Obesity, Heart Disease and other chronic diseases. Serves as the Diabetes Coordinator within the Community Health program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: REQUIRED: Must be a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). Must have Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) credential or obtain within the first year of employment. Minimum 2 years-experience providing direct care to patients required. Previous experience working with the Native American community preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Professional knowledge and skill with diabetes education and role as a health educator. Ability to investigate and analyze information and to draw conclusions. In-depth knowledge and understanding of the nature of diabetes, related issues and patient care concerns. Ability to design, develop, deliver, and evaluate educational programs and materials. Ability to provide technical advice, guidance, and support to professional staff in area of specialty. Must be able to travel inside and outside of the state- may include flying. Some evenings, weekends, and extended overnight work may be required. Moderate walking, bending, and lifting. Must be computer literate and possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Must be able to relate to Native and Non-Native Community Members. Must be a team player; able to establish and maintain effective working relations with the general public, other agencies, and co-workers. Must be able to establish rapport and gain the confidence of the physicians, nurses, members of the primary care team, clients, and associates. Must be able to give and accept constructive criticism related to job or job performance. Will be expected to contribute to the overall growth and development of the Community Health Diabetes program. Must be able to work without direct supervision. Experience with Resource & Patient Management (RPMS) software preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and have an insurable driving record for duration of employment. Must maintain license and/or certification if applicable.
COMMENTS: Indian preference will apply. Individuals must pass a thorough background investigation, including criminal and employment. Individual must have a positive job history with former employers, including LTBB. Individual must take TB test and get influenza vaccination annually due to working in a health care setting.
